Welcome to
Quentin Johnston Art & Design. I’m an artist and graphic designer based in the San Diego area.
I originally studied biology but after working in that field felt compelled to branch out and pursue something different…something creative.
During recent years I have delved into various aspects of drawing and painting and, as a result of collaborating with others and sharing my ideas about learning, I’ve discovered a natural inclination to teach.
So while I pursue my own artistic goals I enjoy helping others with the fundamental skills necessary to reaching their own artistic goals.

I spent a fair bit of time pursuing a better understanding of color (and writing two books on that subject) mostly with still-life and plein-air, oil painting. After some time off to reevaluate my passion, I am now working on a long-standing project – a graphic novel. I still teach and freelance in addition to studying to learn more (the one thing that never ends…)
